The Girl Who Knew Too Much (1963) aka The Evil Eye

I have jumped into watching giallo movies this month. It is one genre of movies that I never got into. But I can say I wish I would have seen some of these movies before now.  I have been missing out on a fantastic genre of movies.  The Girl Who Knew Too Much happened to be on my must watch list.  I can say what a great movie. It's just such a gorgeous movie that I thought about for 2 days after watching.

Directed by Mario Bava about an American tourist Nora Davis (Leticia Roman) who is in vacationing in Italy to visit her sick Aunt. Her Aunt ends up passing away the night of her arrival.  She goes out to get help because the phone lines are dead due to a big rain storm.  Once she is in the plaza next to her Aunts house she is mugged and knocked unconscious. When she wakes up dizzy and disoriented from her attack she sees a women stumble into the plaza and collapse with a knife stuck in her back.  She sees a man emerge from the shadows remove the knife and carry the women away.  After witnessing the murder she panics and passes out.  She is awoken by a strange man that try's to give her something to drink. He quickly runs away when he hears someone coming.  A police officer finds her half awake rambling on about the murder she witnessed.  He thinks she is drunk and takes her to the hospital.  She is interviewed by the police once she is at the hospital and is not taken serious as they believe she is a drunk and crazy.  Once she is out of the hospital she meets a Laura (Valentina Cortese) that lives in the plaza where the lady was murdered and is offered to stay at the house while she is away.  Nora takes her up on the offer and stays in the house.  She is in the house and discovers some information about an Alphabet Killer that has murdered people in the plaza. The killer has made it through ABC and then she discovers that she is to be the next victim.  Well no spoilers here. You are going to have to watch the movie to know what is going to happen.  John Saxon also stars in the movie as Dr. Marcello Bassi as Nora's love interest.

It truly is fantastic movie that is shot in black and white.  It is not forced dubbed like some giallo movies.  It does have subtitles so you get the real voices of the actors.  The imagery and the camera angles truly make for a great movie.  There are some scenes that will keep you on the edge of your seat.  The movie had a good flow but had a couple of slow parts.  All in all it truly is a fantastic movie that I would watch again.  Leticia Roman is one incredibly beautiful women.  She is enough reason to watch the movie.  So if you have not seen this classic giallo please watch it you won't be disappointed.
