BMX Bandits (1983)
I had the pleasure of sitting down last night to watch BMX BANDITS that I recorded to the DVR. I thought I had watched it as kid but I was mistaken. Its a movie directed by Brian Trenchard-Smith featuring a very young Nicole Kidman. It is filmed and based in Manly, Sydney, Australia. What can I say but a fantastic 80's movie. The cheese is just flowing with this movie but in such a great way. The acting is not great but has some of the best lines in a movie. I can't believe I haven't seen this movie before. I was big into these movies as a kid (BMX, skateboard). This one must have just fell through the cracks.
The movie starts with a robbery which is where we meet the villains of the movie. While at the same time we meet two of the three main characters P.J (Angelo D'Angelo) and Goose (James Lugton) and we meet Judy (Nicole Kidman) a few minutes later. The robbers get away and meet up with The Boss of the crew (Bryan Marshall). He instructs them on the next "job" they have to do where police walkie talkies are involved. The Boss tells them they are turned into a one way radio where you can just hear the police. He says they are shipped over from the USA and that 2 of the robbers have to go pick them up at the harbor. Sounds simple enough. Well that's where are trio of BMX riders come into play. They go out boating and find these police walkie talkie's right before the robbers get to the location. Once the robbers get to the location and realise the the walkie talkie's are not there they assume the kids took them. Then the hunt is on for these walkie talkie's. I don't want to ruin the movie so you will have to watch.
I know it is not on Netflix but it is set to be released on Blu Ray on March 15th by Severin Films. If you have a chance to watch it please make time for this movie.
