Seven Days (2010)

There aren't to many movies that surprise or shock me anymore.  I had a great time sitting and watching this movie. It is more than your average torture horror movie.  It has a typical story of revenge but there is much more to the movie than just guts and gore.  I have heard some different views on the movie and being brutal and sadistic.  It does have a little bit of originality to the scenes of torture.  Was it a tough watch for me? No. I really got engaged into the movie and the character development.  You really see the main character spiral into the depths of hell.  Honestly to sum it up A dad seeks revenge on man that murders and rapes his daughter.  Really is a powerful movie that will bring you into the insanity.  Type of movie that covers all types of emotion with the main character and the victim.  I would say watch it if you enjoy engaging and well constructed torture horror movie. 7/10

Tooth Fairy (2010)

"Do you smelllll what The Rock is cooking".  Yes I do actually and it was this terrible movie. If The Rock is cooking anything it smells like burnt sugar that someone farted on.  My wife turned this on because was on one of the premium movie channels.(Think goodness I didn't pay to watch this movie or waste a Netflix delivery). Dwayne Johnson stars as Derek Thompson Tooth Fairy.  He is minor league hockey player and is just a plain ole asshole.  He is forced to become a Tooth Fairy for one week.  Blah blah blah. It is a typical "learn the error of your ways" style of family movie.  I really hope Dwayne lost a bet on playing this role.  It also stars Ashley Judd as his girlfriend Carly. Julie Andrews also stars as Lily the head Tooth Fairy.  The part with Seth MacFarlane as Ziggy is probably the best scene in the whole movie.  Really don't waste your time on this movie unless you want to see The Rock in pink spandex.  I am not a huge fan of Dwayne but I would rather be watching him kicking someones ass and blowing shit up. 3/10

Exam (2009)

A movie that is based in one room with 10 characters.  Wow doesn't sound like much of a movie.  I was pleasantly surprised by Exam.  Really a great movie with great characters and dialogue.  It is smart well written and keeps you guessing the whole time. I caught a trailer of the movie on The Human Centipede I think and was very intrigued by the movie.  And that we finally have it available in the US and on Netflix Watch Instantly it was one that I was going to make time to watch.

The movie is directed by Stuart Hazeldine and tells a story of 8 highly qualified candidates to join a secretive and powerful company.  They are sat in a room with no windows and are told by the Invigilator (Colin Salmon) to answer one question and have 80 minutes to answer the question.  They are told 3 rules that they must obey or be disqualified, don't speak to him or the guard in the room, don't soil their paper and they can't leave the room. Once the test begins they all turn over their papers to find them blank on the other side.  They all seemed confused as there is no visible question. One of the candidates starts writing on her paper and is quickly kicked out of the room.  Once the candidates realize that they can speak to each other they start to try and figure out what  is the question and what is the answer.  Then they start to discover its not what the Invigilator said it is what he didn't say.

It is not a fast paced thriller to keep you on the edge of your seat.  It is a slow burn that slowly starts to unravel at a steady pace.  The acting was superb in my opinion.  The characters start to reveal their true personalities as the movie goes along.  So the character development really kept me into the movie. I can say I really did enjoy the movie.  I gave it  7/10.

Here it is folks my Top 10 movies I watched in 2010.  Now there are some movies on the list that that did not release in 2010.  These are the movies that I watched in 2010.  I don't have the luxury to go to the theater very much so there are some movies that did not make the list cause A. they are not on DVD yet or B. They didn't release anywhere around me. Top 10 Horror movies I watched in 2010

This is my top 10 list of horror movies that I watched in 2010.  This is not a list of top 10 horror movies of 2010.  Most of the movies have release in the last few years.  Please leave comments below I would love to hear feedback.








10. The Girl Next Door (2007)

Based on the true story of Sylvia Likens. Very powerful and tough movie to watch. It will pull at your heart strings. 6/10

9. Murder Party (2007)

Fun indie horror movie. Has some great dialogue and is slow in parts until the final act.  If you are looking for a super gory movie this is not for you. 6/10

8. Inside (2007)

What can I say about this other than a hell of a rollercoaster ride. Fast paced and tons of gore.  It will scare the pants off you. Plus the best use of scissors in a movie. 7/10

7. Martyrs (2008)

The one movie that haunted me for 3 days.  This is one tough movie to watch.  Has a huge turn of events halfway into the movie that will make you cry. 7/10

6.Human Centipede : First Sequence (2009)

Great original story. Truly of my favorite horror movies.  All I know is I wouldn't want to be #2 or #3. 7/10

5. Frozen (2010)

Are you scared of heights? Great movie. Adam Green hit a home run with this one. The range of emotion is just fantastic. 8/10

4. The Crazies (2010)

2 words to describe this Timothy Olyphant.  He is one bad motherfucker.  Truly is a lot of fun. 8/10

3. The Loved Ones (2009)

This is a masterpiece of torture movies.  Glad it wasn't me that told her no. We still don't have a release of this in the US. 9/10

2. Let the Right One In (2008)

I love vampire movies and this such a great story and follows the vampire folklore. (No sparkly vampires here).  Everybody should watch this movie. 9/10

1. A Serbian Film (2010)

The most vile, disturbing, horrific movie ever fucking made. What a true masterpiece of cinema.  It goes above and beyond anything you have seen.  Not for the faint of heart, seriously. 9.5/10

Trash Humpers (2009)

Well holy shit where do I begin talking about this fucked movie.  Harmony Korine directs this strange and bizarre movie.  It follows along this group of 4 elderly people. You only see 3 of them at a time cause one of them is operating the camera.  You delve into the insane world that these miscreants live in. They live on the outside of normal society.   They are socialapathic in the nature that they have no concern for any objects.  It paints a picture of insanity inside a closed off world where we all live.  Honestly there is truly no plot or reason for what goes on in the movie.  You witness a lot of destruction of objects living and non living.  It is not a gory movie any shape or form. I guess unless you consider a tv getting slammed onto a parking lot gory.  There is very little dialogue in the movie.  The idea of the movie is that what you are watching is supposed to be "found tapes".  The way the movie is put together is to resemble watching an old VHS tape.  You see the tracking pop up on the screen and the fuzz fade into a clear picture. (I'm so glad VHS is dead).  I will say Korine was good at making it feel like a worn old VHS that you found on the street or trash can.  I really don't see the art in the movie.  I think it gets praise because Korine was the director.  I bet if anyone else made this movie it would not have received the praise it has received.  It feels like a high school film project made by a 15 year old that borrowed their dad's VHS recorder.  Truly a strange movie that has it place in this world.

Honestly to me the movie was just plain stupid.  I lost interest in the movie about 20 minutes in and told myself that I will finish watching.  I really did want to just shut it off and send it back to Netflix.  I like to finish every movie I start watching no matter how bad the movie.  My first thoughts where "this feels like a Jackass skit".  Thinking about the Johnny Knoxville and Spike Jonze dressed up like old guys skits.  Seriously that was what this movie was to me.  One big stupid Jackass skit that I hated.  Plus I am not a fan of those old man Jackass skits.  It really is a movie that you will love or hate.  Some love Korine's art and some call him pretentious.  I don't care about that.  It is a movie you need to see and make your own judgement.  I hated this movie and really wish it could have been something a little different.  Plus if I hear the stupid obnoxious high pitch laugh from the character with the camera again I will punch someone in the face.

The House of the Devil (2009)

I heard everybody chatting on Twitter about The House of the Devil. So what did I do I threw it on my Netfilix Watch Instant list. Well it really intrigued me so I decided to watch it now.  I am notorious for adding something then watching 2 months later.  What was cool since I didn't really know the full premise of the movie I decided to watch it on 12/20/10 the night of the Winter Solstice Lunar Eclipse. I do explain the movie in detail but leave the ending a mystery.

The movie is directed by Ti West and is based in the 1980's.  The story is setup a college girl Samantha (Jocelin Donahue) is looking at renting an apartment that is $300 a month.  Well like most college students that don't come from wealthy parents she is broke. So she sees a flyer in the college quad about a babysitting job and decides to call the number on the bottom of the sheet.  She is greeted by an answering machine and she leaves a message and walks away from the payphone.  Then once she is walking away the phone rings and it is the man about the babysitting job on the other end.  Samantha is shocked and wondering how he knew the number.  He tells her to meet him outside one of the buildings and that he would be buy to pick her up.  Well she waits for him and he never shows up.  She goes and meets up with her friend Megan (Greta Gerwig) and tells her about the apartment and that she has to come up $300 by the following Monday. She explains to Megan that she is broke and that she was stood up by this babysitting job.  She goes back to her dorm room where she has a dirty pig for a roommate. (Samantha is a bit of a germaphobe)  Her roommate says that she has a message.  The message is from the guy about the babysitting job.  She quickly calls him back and takes the job.  So she has her friend Megan drive her out to the house that is way out in the country.  Megan has a bad feeling and makes Samantha promise her if something is weird that they will both just leave.  They arrive to a big beautiful home where they meet Mr. Ulman (Tom Noonan).  Mr. Ulman explains to Samantha that he would actually not be babysitting that she would be watching over his mother.  Samantha does not like that idea and told him that she is not interested. He offers to double what he was going to pay her. Then offers to pay her $300. She said that she would do it for $400 and he agrees.  Now she knows that she has her rent money and a little extra to live on.  Megan is not happy to find out what has taken place and storms out of the house.  Samantha reassures her that everything will be fine and to pick her up at midnight.  Megan drives away and pulls over in a cemetery to smoke a cigarette where is greeted by a strange man.  Then the man asks if she is the babysitter and Megan answers no.  Then Megan meets her maker at the hand of the strange man. While Samantha is back at the house her job is explained a little better by Mr. Ulman.  He then goes upstairs where it is assumed that he is speaking with his wife.  While Samantha is sitting in the living room she is greeted by Mrs. Ulman (Mary Woronov) who appears from the kitchen.  Samantha explains that she is the babysitter and Mrs. Ulman complements her on how beautiful she is.  The Ulman's leave the house and now Samantha is by herself with the mother upstairs somewhere.  Samantha explores the house room by room as any normal teenager would do.  She decides to order a pizza.  She puts on her headphones and dances around the house to kill some time and accidentally breaks a vase upstairs. She begins to clean it up when she notices a closet.  Inside the closet she finds some pictures of a family at the house that is not the Ulman's.  She is alarmed by this and continues to explore the house.  Then she he hears the doorbell and realizes it is the pizza she ordered.  The pizza tastes funny and she ends up throwing away the slice she was eating.  Samantha starts hearing weird noises coming from upstairs and then she continues on her exploration. Once she is back upstairs she sees a door that leads up to the third floor of the house and cautiously goes upstairs.  She reaches for a light and turns it on and blows a fuse to the whole the house and then the house goes completely dark.  Now she is completely freaked out as she is sitting by the door to the attic she sees light and someone walking closer to the door.  The door starts to open and she sees a hand coming around the door and she takes off back to the 2nd floor and then passes out.  When she wakes up she is tied down and gagged.  Now she sees the Ulman's and the mother that she was "babysitting".  This is where the fun begins.

I really loved this movie.  It was shot as if it was made in the 1980's.  Had great music and clothing was period accurate for the 80's.  I thought Ti West did a great job with the movie.  It had some slow parts when Samantha was dancing around the house.  If you are looking for a gorefest this not the movie for you.  What gore is in the movie fits perfectly.  The third act seemed rushed.  The ending really left me thinking what the... This movie is a great nod to the 80's horror suspense genre.  Take the time to watch it I think that you will enjoy.
